Polki or Kundan craftsmanship was introduced by the Mughal empire. The special characteristic of Kundan jewellery is that each stone is cut in the traditional Rose Cut, which originated in the 1500s. Rose-cut stones are facetted in a dome shape with a flat back, although rose cut stones are quite transparent and don't reflect the light like the modern brilliant cut, they have a calm and ethereal look to them. Kundan jewellery is handmade with long-standing artisanal traditions, setting each stone individually with a rub-over setting.
